Practical tips

  • Use an Octopus card or rechargeable contactless bank card for MTR, buses and ferries—no cash needed.
  • Download the MTR Mobile app for real-time schedules and platform English.
  • Alipay and WeChat Pay are widely accepted in chain stores and supermarkets; keep some cash for wet markets.
  • Best seasons: October–December (cool, clear) or March–April (mild, fewer crowds).
  • Skip Ocean Park unless you’re traveling with kids—it’s expensive and not unique to Hong Kong.

Hong Kong rewards seven-day visitors who balance iconic views with hidden alleys and a quick Macau escape. The city’s compact size and 24-hour energy make it a perfect standalone trip; just budget for food and attractions, and you’ll leave with memories of skylines, street stalls and ferry rides that cost less than a coffee.
