Giant Ibis VIP

Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville is Cambodia's beach + islands route — 4-5h south via National Highway 4. Giant Ibis + Cambodia Post VIP are the reliable operators — AC + WiFi + English staff. Sihanoukville has been transformed by Chinese investment 2018-2022 — city itself now feels less appealing, but the islands (Koh Rong + Koh Rong Samloem) are the beach heaven. From Sihanoukville, fast boat to Koh Rong 45min + Koh Rong Samloem 30min.
Book Giant Ibis + Cambodia Post directly on their websites, 12go, or at their offices. Riverside touts in Phnom Penh overcharge tourists 2-3x + oversell to unbranded buses.

Bus Phnom Penh → Sihanoukville (4-5h, $8-15), then fast boat Sihanoukville pier → Koh Rong (45 min, $25 return). Book combined bus+boat on 12go — saves time + often cheaper than DIY.
The city itself is much less appealing since 2018 Chinese casino development — many beaches feel overbuilt. BUT: Koh Rong + Koh Rong Samloem islands 30-45min offshore are still gorgeous — this is what most tourists actually visit. Sihanoukville is a transfer point, not a destination.
Giant Ibis: their office near central Sihanoukville, walkable to fast boat pier (10 min). Cambodia Post: their terminal north of city, tuk-tuk to pier $3-5.
Not recommended — the route is 4-5h so overnight sleepers don't exist. Day buses depart 07:00-15:00. Take an afternoon bus + arrive Sihanoukville evening, ferry to islands next morning.
