Le Marais FAQ

Which airport serves Le Marais, Paris?

Le Marais is served by Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), approximately 40-50 minutes by RER B to Chatelet-Les Halles, then Metro line 1 to Saint-Paul (EUR 11.80). Or Orly Airport (ORY): 40 min by OrlyBus to Denfert-Rochereau then Metro 1 to Saint-Paul. Taxi from CDG is around EUR 55-65.

What is Le Marais known for?

Le Marais is Paris's most fashionable historic district — a rare area that escaped Haussmann's 19th-century renovation, preserving medieval streets, Renaissance mansions (hotels particuliers), and the Place des Vosges. Today it is Paris's LGBTQ+ quarter, Jewish heritage area (Rue des Rosiers), contemporary art hub (Centre Pompidou), and the home of Paris's best falafel.

What is the best falafel in Le Marais?

L'As du Fallafel on Rue des Rosiers is the most famous — perpetual queue, legendary crispy falafel in pitta. Miznon (Israeli street food) on Rue des Ecouffes is a strong alternative. The Rue des Rosiers Jewish quarter also has excellent shakshuka, hummus, and babka bakeries.

When is the best time to visit Le Marais?

Le Marais is lively year-round. Spring (April-June) is ideal — Place des Vosges gardens in bloom, cafe terraces open, manageable crowds. Paris Pride (late June) centres on Le Marais. Summer is busy with tourists. December has festive markets around Place des Vosges. Note many independent shops close Sunday mornings.
