It is the highest concentration of UNESCO-listed heritage in any single urban district.

Hagia Sophia is a working mosque and entry is free — but timed entry tickets must be booked in advance via the official Turkish Ministry of Tourism website. Visitors must remove shoes and women must cover their heads. The interior is open outside of the 5 daily prayer times. The mosaics and enormous 56m dome are visible year-round.

2-3 days covers the core. Day 1: Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Hippodrome, Topkapi Palace. Day 2: Grand Bazaar (morning), Basilica Cistern, Spice Bazaar, Bosphorus sunset cruise.
