Lounges + fast track

  • T2 — 51st & Green: Aer Lingus AerClub Concierge + Platinum, BA Gold, PriorityPass. Best food at DUB.
  • T2 — DAA Executive Lounge: paid entry €30-35, PriorityPass accepted. Quieter alternative.
  • T1 — 1759 Lounge: paid entry €30, PriorityPass. Premium of T1, decent showers.
  • T1 — Aspire Lounge: paid entry €25, PriorityPass. Smaller, often crowded mornings.
  • USA Pre-clearance Lounge (T2): accessible only AFTER you clear US CBP. Limited food/drink — eat landside first.

Things that surprise first-timers

  • No train. Genuinely no rail link. Allow extra time vs other European capitals.
  • US pre-clearance closes early: late evening US-bound flights still need to clear CBP before boarding. The CBP facility closes ~21:30 — book Dublin → US departures before 19:00 where possible.
  • You cannot bring duty-free liquids through US pre-clearance unless they're in a sealed STEB bag with receipt < 24h old. Best to buy duty-free on arrival in the US or after pre-clearance airside.
  • The Loop is the airport pickup zone — drivers are charged after 10 minutes. Use the Express Red Car Park (€3 for 30 min) if collecting someone with bags.

Dublin Airport FAQ

What airlines fly from Terminal 1 vs Terminal 2 at Dublin?+

Terminal 2 (T2, opened 2010) handles Aer Lingus and all of its codeshare partners, Etihad, Delta, American Airlines and United — essentially all transatlantic, Middle East and full-service long-haul. Terminal 1 (T1) handles Ryanair, easyJet, Vueling, KLM, Lufthansa, Air France and most other short-haul European carriers. There is no walking connection between T1 and T2 — allow 15 minutes for a free shuttle bus or 10 minutes walk if connecting between terminals.

How does US pre-clearance at Dublin work?+

Dublin Airport has a US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facility — you clear US immigration and customs in Ireland before boarding. On arrival in the USA you land as a domestic passenger. The pre-clearance facility is in T2, after security and before the international departures pier. Allow 60 minutes if you have already checked in online; 90 minutes at peak times (06:00-09:00). Bring food/water past pre-clearance — there is no shop landside of the gate.

Is there a train from Dublin Airport to the city centre?+

No. Dublin is one of the only major European capitals without a direct airport rail link. The Metro Link subway project has been proposed since the 2000s with a current estimate of 2035 for completion. Until then: Airlink Express bus 747/757 (€8, every 10-15 min, 30 min to city centre) is the fast option. Aircoach (€9, 35 min) and Dublin Bus 16 (€2.60, 60 min) are alternatives. Taxis run €25-40.

Which lounges are at Dublin Airport?+

T2: 51st & Green (Aer Lingus AerClub Concierge + Platinum, plus PriorityPass), DAA Executive Lounge (paid + PriorityPass). T1: 1759 Lounge (paid + PriorityPass), Aspire Lounge (paid + PriorityPass). T2 also has the USA Pre-clearance Lounge accessible from inside the pre-cleared area. Lounge access via PriorityPass requires a paid membership, available with many premium credit cards.

How early should I arrive at Dublin Airport?+

Short-haul European: 90 minutes before departure. Long-haul (non-US): 2 hours. Transatlantic with US pre-clearance: 2.5-3 hours minimum — you need to clear bag-drop, security AND US immigration/customs all before boarding. Fast Track security at Dublin costs €7-10 and saves significant time at peak (06:00-09:00 + 16:00-19:00). DAA publishes live security wait times on the dublinairport.com website.

Is Fast Track worth it at Dublin Airport?+

Yes for early-morning (05:00-08:00) and Sunday-evening flights when standard security can hit 45-60 minute waits. Fast Track costs €7-10 (cheaper online ahead of time) and gets you through in 5-15 minutes. Not needed for off-peak flights — standard security at Dublin is typically 10-25 minutes outside the morning peak. AerClub Platinum/Concierge and BA Executive Club Gold get Fast Track included.

Can I park overnight at Dublin Airport?+

Yes. Short Term Car Park (closest to T1+T2, €30/day) and Long Term (€18/day, shuttle to terminals). Off-airport park-and-ride options include Quickpark, Park to Fly and Clayton Hotel Park (€8-15/day with shuttle). Book online ahead — drive-up rates can be double the booked rate. Holiday peaks (Christmas, Easter, summer): book 2-4 weeks ahead.
