Friendly Greek man near Plaka/Monastiraki invites solo male tourist to a "great local bar".

How it works

At the bar, women join, drinks appear. Bill at end is EUR 500-2000 with muscle at door blocking exit until paid via credit card.

How to avoid
  • Never accept "let me take you to a bar" from strangers. Ever.
  • If you want nightlife, go to Psyri or Gazi with your own group.
If it happens to you
  • If cornered: pay smallest amount, note bar name + address, report to Tourist Police (+30 210 920 0724).
  • Contact your embassy — bar scam is a criminal enterprise investigated by Greek police.
