🇨🇦 Vancouver & Victoria
Vancouver operates the world's busiest urban seaplane network.
Vancouver operates the world's busiest urban seaplane network. Harbour Air — the largest all-seaplane airline on Earth and the world's first commercial operator to test all-electric aircraft — runs 130+ daily flights from downtown Vancouver's Coal Harbour terminal to Victoria (25 min, CAD 155-250), Nanaimo (25 min), and Whistler (30 min). For business travellers between Vancouver and Victoria, the seaplane is dramatically faster than the ferry + drive combination (75 min ferry + 90 min BC Ferries queue vs 25 min flight). For tourists, the arrival views over Stanley Park, Burrard Inlet, and Gulf Islands are as memorable as the destination. Coal Harbour terminal is a 5-min walk from Waterfront Station SkyTrain — Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is a separate hub for connecting flights, though Harbour Air also runs a YVR-Victoria route.
Hub: Vancouver Coal Harbour Seaplane Terminal
Downtown Vancouver's waterfront seaplane terminal — Canada Place, walking distance from Gastown + Waterfront Station SkyTrain. No commercial airport queuing; 15-min check-in cutoff. Views over Stanley Park + North Shore mountains.

FAQs
Vancouver seaplane vs BC Ferries to Victoria?
Seaplane: 25 min flight + 5 min terminal = 30 min door-to-door if you're in downtown Vancouver. CAD 155-250. BC Ferries: 45-min drive to Tsawwassen + 90 min queue + 90 min sailing + 25 min drive Sidney → Victoria = 3.5-4 hours door-to-door. CAD 80-100 per person. For same-day return trips or time-sensitive travellers, the seaplane wins on time; for families with cars, BC Ferries is dramatically cheaper.
Is Harbour Air really flying electric planes?
They completed the world's first commercial-aircraft all-electric test flight in December 2019 with a modified de Havilland Beaver. As of 2026, one aircraft is in certified operations on limited short routes; full-fleet conversion is a 5-10 year process. Non-electric flights use standard piston + turbine aircraft.
How early to arrive at Coal Harbour seaplane terminal?
15 minutes before departure. No TSA, no commercial security theatre. Check bag (max 25 lb / 11 kg + one carry-on), print boarding pass or use mobile, walk to dock. The whole experience is closer to boarding a boat than a commercial airline.
Best window seat for the Vancouver-Victoria flight?
Right-side window (starboard) for the eastbound Vancouver→Victoria flight gives the best Stanley Park + Point Grey views. Left-side (port) for the westbound Victoria→Vancouver flight for Gulf Islands + Point Grey views. The Beavers + Otters seat 6-9 pax; ask at check-in.
