Chinese Passport Visa-Free Countries 2026
The complete 2026 list — 85+ destinations across 6 continents that Chinese passport holders can enter visa-free, with visa on arrival, or via simple e-visa. Updated for the 2026 mutual visa-free agreements with 17 European countries.
The Chinese passport got dramatically more powerful in 2024-2026
Between November 2023 and March 2026, the Chinese passport added 25 visa-free or mutual visa-free destinations — the largest expansion in its modern history. The shift was driven by three policy waves: (1) ASEAN mutual visa-free agreements with Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia; (2) the December 2023 China-Europe 15-day pilot programme covering 17 EU plus EFTA states; and (3) bilateral agreements with Israel, Iran, Kazakhstan, Belarus, and others.
For travelers, the practical effect is enormous: Beijing to Bangkok, Shanghai to Singapore, Guangzhou to Paris, Shenzhen to Dubai, Chengdu to Maldives are now passport-stamp-and-go trips. Trip.com bookings for these destinations from Chinese cities are up 240-380% year-over-year. The Chinese New Year 2027 and 2026 Golden Week peaks are now realistically affordable to plan as turn-up-and-fly itineraries.
Three rules cover almost every Chinese passport trip in 2026:
- Mutual visa-free does not mean unlimited. Most agreements cap stays at 15-30 days per visit and require a confirmed return ticket. The 15-day Europe pilot is the strictest.
- Visa-free does not mean documentation-free. Bring a confirmed hotel booking, return flight ticket, and at least USD 1,000 in proof-of-funds. A Trip.com hotel plus flight combo PDF is widely accepted as one document.
- The list changes fast. Indonesia revoked the China visa-on-arrival briefly in 2023 then restored it; Saudi Arabia tightened in 2025 then loosened again. Always check China's MOFA outbound advisory database 72 hours before you fly.

Updated May 2026
How many countries can Chinese passport holders visit visa-free in 2026?+
As of May 2026, Chinese passport holders can visit 85+ countries and territories visa-free, with visa-on-arrival, or via simple e-visa. The number expanded sharply in 2024-2026 with pilot mutual visa-free agreements between China and 15 Schengen states (France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland, Ireland and others). The Henley Passport Index ranks the Chinese passport at #60 globally in 2026 — up from #70 in 2023.
What is the 15-day mutual visa-free pilot programme with Europe?+
Launched December 2023 by China's State Council, the programme grants Chinese passport holders 15-day visa-free entry to France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Austria, Luxembourg, Belgium, Slovakia, and Bulgaria. Stays are limited to 15 days per visit, must be for business/tourism/family/transit, and require return-ticket proof. Extended through 2026 by mutual agreement.
Which destinations are most popular for Chinese travelers in 2026?+
By Trip.com booking volume, the top 10 outbound Chinese destinations in early 2026 are: Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Maldives, UAE, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Italy. Thailand alone receives 8.5 million Chinese visitors per year following the mutual visa-free agreement.
Can I use these destinations for a Chinese New Year 2027 trip?+
Yes — Chinese New Year 2027 falls on February 17. Book by mid-November 2026 for the best prices. Thailand, Singapore, Maldives, UAE and Japan see 3-5x price inflation between January 25 and February 25, but visa-free entry makes them logistically simple. For the cheapest CNY 2027 trips, look at less-saturated destinations: Sri Lanka, Vietnam (north), Indonesia outside Bali (Yogyakarta, Komodo).
Are there visa-free destinations for Chinese travelers in the Americas?+
Yes, but limited: Ecuador (90 days), Suriname (90 days), Bahamas (30), Barbados (30), Grenada (30), Antigua and Barbuda (30), Dominica, and Jamaica. The big absences are the US (visa required), Canada (visa required) and Mexico (eTA-style needed). Brazil offers a 10-year multiple-entry e-visa for USD 80 — the easiest South American mainland route.
Do I need to show Trip.com or specific airline booking proof?+
For visa-free entries: usually a confirmed return / onward flight plus hotel booking plus funds proof (USD 1,000+ recommended) is requested. For mutual visa-free entries to Europe under the 15-day pilot, the border officer often asks for an itinerary print-out. Trip.com booking confirmations are widely accepted at immigration desks — they include both flight and hotel on one PDF.
What is the difference between mutual visa-free and visa-free?+
Mutual visa-free is a bilateral agreement between China and the other country — both countries' passport holders can enter each other visa-free, typically with the same length of stay. Visa-free (unilateral) means the destination country has opened its border to Chinese passport holders unilaterally, often as an inbound-tourism incentive. The practical difference for travelers is none — both allow entry without a pre-arranged visa.
