London Heathrow (LHR) to London — Updated 2026
London Heathrow (LHR) has two distinct rail options into central London: the Heathrow Express (15 minutes to Paddington, £25 one-way) and the Elizabeth Line (33 minutes to Bond Street / Tottenham Court Road / Liverpool Street, £12.80 with contactless). The Heathrow Express is the fastest option but charges more than twice the Elizabeth Line — worth it only for short layovers or West London hotels. The Elizabeth Line, opened to LHR in 2022, is the value pick for most travellers: contactless tap, no booking, every 4–7 minutes, and direct to Tottenham Court Road, Bond Street, Farringdon and Liverpool Street with no transfers needed. The Piccadilly Line (Tube, dark blue) is slower (~50 minutes) but only £5.50 with contactless — the cheapest option, and the best for anyone staying in the Knightsbridge / South Kensington area. All three rail options serve Terminals 2, 3, 4, and 5; Terminal 5 has its own dedicated Heathrow Express platform. Avoid taxis: £55–£80 metered, easily £100+ in peak traffic.
