Macau Airport Transport Guide
From HKIA, Hong Kong city, and within Macau — Updated 2026
Macau has no airport rail — but you do not need one. Most international travellers reach Macau via Hong Kong: the HZMB Bridge Bus from HKIA (HK$65, 50 min) or the TurboJET / Cotai Water Jet ferry from HK Sheung Wan (HK$175, 60–70 min). Once in Macau, the Macau LRT Taipa Line connects MFM airport to the Cotai Strip casinos (Venetian, Galaxy, Wynn Palace) for MOP 6–10, or take a free casino shuttle bus from Arrivals. The peninsula side is reached by bus or taxi (LRT peninsula extension opens 2027).

FAQ
How do I get from Hong Kong Airport (HKIA) to Macau?+
Three options. (1) HZMB Bridge Bus from HKIA — go to Terminal 1 transfer area, follow signs to "Macau" / HZMB shuttle desk. HK$65 (cash) or HK$58 (Octopus card), ~50 min including border control at the Macau end. Runs roughly every 30 min from 06:00 to 22:00, hourly overnight. (2) Skypier ferry: take the SkyPier inside HKIA directly to Macau (HK$295, 55 min) — no need to clear HK immigration if connecting flights. (3) Direct cross-border coach to Macau via HZMB Macau Port, then Macau public bus to your destination. The HZMB bus is the cheapest and most popular.
How do I take the Macau LRT from the airport?+
The Macau LRT station is connected to the airport terminal via a covered skybridge — 5 minute walk from Arrivals. The Taipa Line is fully automated (driverless) and serves the Cotai Strip casinos (Venetian, Galaxy, Wynn Palace, Studio City) plus Taipa Ferry Terminal. Fare is MOP 6 for 1–3 stations, MOP 8 for 4–6, MOP 10 for 7+. Buy a single-trip token or use a Macau Pass card. Operating hours: 06:30 to 23:15 daily, every 5–7 minutes. The LRT does NOT yet connect to the Macau Peninsula (mainland Macau where the older casinos are) — that line opens 2027.
Which is better — ferry from Hong Kong or HZMB bridge bus?+
Bridge Bus is cheaper (HK$65 vs HK$175) and runs 24/7. Ferry is faster door-to-door if you are staying on HK Island (Sheung Wan terminal is central). If you are at HKIA already, take the HZMB bus — it is HK$130 cheaper and roughly the same time. If you are in central Hong Kong (Sheung Wan, Central, Causeway Bay), the TurboJET ferry from Sheung Wan terminal is more convenient than going back to the airport. Pick: based on starting location, not preference.
Do I need a visa for Macau?+
Most western passport holders (US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia, NZ, Japan, South Korea) get 30-day visa-free entry to Macau on arrival. Chinese citizens with valid Mainland Travel Permit get visa-free. ASEAN nationals: most are visa-free for 30–90 days. Indian, Pakistani, and most African passports need a visa in advance. Macau is a Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China but has its own immigration — you clear Macau immigration separately from China, even when crossing via HZMB. Allow 30–60 min for border control during busy periods.
How do I get to the Macau casinos (Venetian, Wynn, Galaxy) from the airport?+
Most major casinos run free shuttle buses from the airport. Look for branded shuttle stops outside Arrivals: Venetian / Galaxy / Sands China runs every 15–20 min, free with no purchase required. Wynn Palace and Studio City have similar shuttles. Alternatively: Macau LRT (MOP 6–8 to Cotai East, walk 5 min to Venetian) or taxi (MOP 70–100, 10 min). The free shuttles are the smart move — they are reliable and drop you at the casino entrance.
Can I day-trip to Macau from Hong Kong?+
Yes, easily. Take the first HZMB bus or ferry around 07:00, arrive Macau by 08:30. Spend the day visiting Senado Square, A-Ma Temple, Ruins of St. Paul (peninsula side) or the Cotai Strip casinos (Taipa side). Return by 22:00. Bring your passport (Macau immigration required). Pataca (MOP) is the local currency but Hong Kong dollars are widely accepted at 1:1 rate (you lose ~3% on the implied conversion). Most casino-related stores quote HKD directly. Total day-trip cost from HK is around HK$300 per person for transport.
