Singapore Changi is one of the most connected airports in the world, and its MRT link is characteristic Singapore — cheap, punctual, and extremely simple. The MRT East-West Line runs from Changi Airport station (below Terminals 2 and 3) to City Hall in central Singapore in about 30 minutes, with a single transfer at Tanah Merah. The fare is SGD 2-2.50 depending on distance, paid via EZ-Link contactless card (SGD 12 with SGD 7 stored value) or SimplyGo (tap any Visa/Mastercard contactless card directly). Trains run every 5-8 minutes from 05:30 to 23:20 daily. Terminals 1 and 4 don't have direct MRT stations — free Skytrain (light rail inside Changi) takes 3-6 minutes to T2/T3 first. From City Hall, you can walk to Marina Bay Sands, Raffles Place, and Chinatown, or transfer to other MRT lines for the rest of the city.

FAQ

Does Changi MRT work from Terminal 1 and 4?+

Terminal 1: free Skytrain to T2 (3 min), then MRT. Terminal 4: free Skytrain shuttle bus to T2 (6-10 min), then MRT. Total transfer time: add ~10 min to your MRT journey estimate. Skytrain runs 05:00-02:30 for arrivals + all through the night for connecting passengers.

EZ-Link or SimplyGo — which to use?+

SimplyGo (contactless bank card tap) is easier for short visits — no card purchase. Just tap your Visa/Mastercard contactless card at the gate. EZ-Link (SGD 12 card, SGD 7 preloaded) is only worth it for longer stays or if you want a physical Singapore transit card. Both charge the same fare.

MRT hours at Changi Airport?+

05:30 to 23:20 daily. Last train from Changi Airport MRT to Tanah Merah: 23:18. After that: taxi, Grab, night bus 36N (only Fri/Sat/PH), or Airport Shuttle van. Grab and taxi 24/7 with SGD 3-8 airport surcharge.

MRT to Marina Bay Sands?+

East-West Line to City Hall (~30 min from Changi), then walk 10 min to MBS via CityLink Mall (climate-controlled underground) or transfer to Downtown Line at Bayfront (5 min). Total: 40-45 min, SGD 2-2.50.
