Lomprayah Bus + Fast Ferry
VIP AC bus + catamaran fast ferry
2x daily overnight
Bangkok to Koh Samui is the classic Gulf of Thailand island route via bus + ferry. Lomprayah + Songserm are the combined bus+ferry operators — one ticket, one journey. Bus from Bangkok Southern Terminal 17:30-19:00, overnight to Surat Thani or Chumphon, ferry to Koh Samui morning arrival 08:30-10:30. Domestic flight (Bangkok Airways BKK-USM 1h20 for ฿2,500-5,000 — the ONLY airline serving Samui) is fastest but pricey. Bus+ferry combo is the backpacker + budget option.
Book Lomprayah + Songserm at combined-ticket counters on 12go, at Sai Tai Mai terminal, or via their websites. Khao San Road agents oversell packages + put you on delayed connections. Lomprayah has better on-time record.

Flight (Bangkok Airways only) is 1h20 for ฿2,500-5,000. Bus+ferry combo is 13-16h for ฿1,200-2,000. Flight wins on time; bus+ferry wins on budget. Note: Bangkok Airways monopolises USM airport — no low-cost carrier alternative for the flight.
Lomprayah uses fast catamaran ferries (1.5h Samui crossing) + modern VIP buses. Songserm is cheaper but slower (2.5h ferry). Lomprayah is the tourist-recommended premium; Songserm is the budget option. Both include the combined ticket.
