Step-by-Step: MNL Airport to Manila by Bus + LRT-1

The cheapest and most reliable route uses a short airport shuttle to PITX followed by the LRT-1 light rail. Follow these 6 steps.

1

Exit your terminal and find the airport bus stop

All four MNL terminals (T1, T2, T3, T4) have clearly marked ground transport bays outside arrivals. Follow the purple 'Airport Bus' signs towards the PITX Shuttle or UBE Express stop.

2

Board the shuttle to PITX (Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange)

The free or low-cost airport shuttle (₱10–₱20) runs every 15–20 minutes to PITX, about 5–10 minutes away. Alternatively, walk across the pedestrian bridge from Terminal 4.

3

Buy your Beep card or single-journey ticket at PITX

Purchase a reloadable Beep card (₱100 deposit, includes ₱20 stored value) at any LRT-1 ticket booth. Single-journey tickets (₱15–₱30) are also available. Beep cards are reusable for all Manila rail lines.

4

Board LRT-1 at Dr. Santos (Sucat) or Baclaran Station

The nearest LRT-1 stations to PITX are Baclaran (southbound end of the line) or Dr. Santos. Trains run every 4–7 minutes during peak hours, 07:00–20:00 daily. Head northbound towards Taft Avenue or Doroteo Jose.

5

Ride to your destination station

Key stops: Taft Avenue (connection to MRT-3 for Makati/BGC), United Nations (Manila hotels), Central Terminal, Doroteo Jose (Chinatown/Binondo). Journey time Baclaran → Taft Avenue is around 20 minutes.

6

Tap out and exit

Tap your Beep card on the exit gate. Remaining balance is retained for future trips. From the station, use Grab or jeepney for the final kilometre to your hotel.

Insider Tips for 2026

  • Get a Beep card immediately. It works on LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3 — the only card you need for all Manila rail lines.
  • Avoid Terminal 1 taxis. Use only accredited airport taxis (yellow coupon taxis) or pre-book Grab from the Grab-designated pick-up zone.
  • UBE Express is worth it if you're travelling to Cubao, Pasay, or BGC — it's direct, air-conditioned, and only ₱300.
  • LRT-1 runs 05:00–22:00 daily. For late arrivals after midnight, Grab or a metered taxi is your only option.
  • Travelling to BGC (Bonifacio Global City)? Take MRT-3 to Taguig or grab a BGC Bus from Ayala — Grab surge pricing to BGC can be extreme during rush hour.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.Is there a direct train from Ninoy Aquino Airport to Manila city centre?

There is no direct metro or commuter rail line connecting MNL terminals directly to central Manila in 2026. The closest option is a short shuttle or walk to PITX (Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange), from where you can board LRT-1 for a 20–30 minute ride into the city. A planned airport rail link has been announced but is not yet operational.

Q.How much does it cost to get from MNL to Makati by train?

The cheapest route costs roughly ₱60–₱120 (~$1.10–$2.10 USD) total: a ₱10–₱20 shuttle to PITX, then an LRT-1 fare of ₱15–₱30 to Taft Avenue, then an MRT-3 fare of ₱13–₱28 to Ayala (Makati). Allow 60–90 minutes door-to-door. The UBE Express airport bus direct to Ayala/Cubao costs ₱300 and is faster during off-peak hours.

Q.What is the best time to travel from Manila Airport to avoid traffic?

Manila traffic is notorious. The worst congestion is 07:00–09:00 and 17:00–20:00 on weekdays. For taxi or Grab rides, travel before 06:30 or between 10:00–15:00 for the fastest journey. Train options via LRT-1 are largely unaffected by road traffic and remain the most time-reliable choice regardless of hour.
