Quick Facts
FAQ
Do Irish citizens need a visa for Thailand?+
No — Irish citizens get 60 days visa-free entry to Thailand (extended from 30 days in mid-2024). The 60-day stay is granted as a visa exemption stamp on arrival. You can extend once for 30 more days at a Thai immigration office (THB 1,900). Total possible stay: 90 days. After that, you must leave Thailand.
What is the Thai Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)?+
A free online arrival card required for all foreign visitors entering Thailand since 1 May 2025. Replaces the paper TM6 form. Apply at tdac.immigration.go.th OR via the Thailand Pass mobile app. Submit within 72 hours before arrival. Costs nothing. Take a screenshot to show immigration if asked. Lost / unfilled TDAC may delay entry.
How do I extend a Thailand stay beyond 60 days?+
Go to a Thai Immigration office (popular ones: Bangkok Chaeng Wattana, Phuket, Chiang Mai). Bring: passport, photo (4×6cm), TM30 (your accommodation's registration of you), THB 1,900 cash. Get a 30-day extension stamp. Total stay then = 90 days. Cannot extend twice — after the extension you must leave Thailand.
Can I do a visa run from Thailand?+
Yes — leave Thailand by land or air to a neighbouring country (Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Myanmar) then re-enter Thailand. Each re-entry gives 60 days again. BUT: Thai Immigration has cracked down on serial visa runs since 2023. Three or more land-border re-entries in 12 months may be refused. For long-term living in Thailand, get a long-stay visa (DTV digital nomad, retirement, education etc.).
What documents do Irish citizens need at Thai immigration?+
Passport (6+ months validity), return or onward flight ticket within 60 days, completed Thai Digital Arrival Card (TDAC). Proof of THB 10,000 cash / equivalent per person OR THB 20,000 per family — officially required but very rarely checked. Hotel booking for first night — sometimes checked. Immigration officers can refuse entry if they suspect you are living in Thailand on tourist status.
