Common questions

Which airport is closest to the Alps?

Geneva serves the most resorts on this list — 14 of them — followed by Zurich, Milan and Innsbruck. Closest by road is not always fastest: a car-free resort ends on a train regardless of how near the airport is.

How long does an airport transfer to a ski resort take?

On these 111 routes the driving times run from under an hour to more than four, measured on OpenStreetMap road data without traffic or snow. Winter conditions and chain controls make real journeys longer.

Can you reach a ski resort by train?

Some, yes. Where a Swiss rail connection exists from the airport station we show the fastest one in our sample, from the SBB timetable. Zermatt is car-free, so the last stretch is by train whichever airport you fly into.

Are these times the same as a booked transfer?

No. These are driving times for the road distance. A booked shared transfer stops for other passengers and takes longer; a private one is closer to the driving time. Prices and schedules are on the operator’s site.

Where these numbers come from

Driving: OSRM routing on OpenStreetMap roads (router.project-osrm.org): distance and typical driving time without traffic, snow or chains. Train: SBB timetable via transport.opendata.ch: connections leaving from 09:00 on Tuesday 15 December 2026. Times exclude traffic, snow and chain controls, so treat them as the floor rather than the journey you will have.
