Queen Alia International (AMM) is 35 km south of Amman city + also the practical gateway to Petra (200 km / 3 hours), the Dead Sea (60 km / 1 hour), and Wadi Rum (300 km / 4 hours). How do I get from AMM to Petra?+
Direct pre-booked transfer: for private car with driver, 3 hours via Desert Highway. Alternative options: JETT bus from Abdali station in Amman (JOD 12.50, 3.5 hours) — but requires Sariyah bus to Amman first + waiting at JETT station. For most tourists: direct AMM→Petra transfer is the practical choice, especially if arriving late.

Should I do Petra as a day trip or overnight?+
Overnight — Petra is a 3-hour drive each way + minimum 6 hours in-park to see main sights. A day trip means 12+ hours driving + hiking + return with zero flexibility. Overnight at Wadi Musa hotels (Petra town) gives you evening + morning access, sunset over the Treasury, and dramatically less stressful timing. Combine 2 nights Petra + 1 night Wadi Rum + 1 night Dead Sea for a classic 5-day Jordan loop.
Is Amman airport arrival safe?+
Yes — AMM is one of the Middle East's more organised airports. The official taxi rank + Careem pickup zone are both safe. Sariyah Airport Express bus is safe + reliable. AVOID unmarked drivers who approach in arrivals with "cheap ride" offers. For late-night arrivals, pre-booked transfer or Careem is the practical safe choice.
