FEX train or S-Bahn from BER?+

Airport Express FEX runs every 30 min direct from BER to Berlin Hauptbahnhof in 30 min for €4.40. S-Bahn S9 + S45 run every 20 min in 45 min for the same fare but with more stops (useful if your hotel is along the route). Total fare €4.40 either way. For Mitte + Hauptbahnhof: FEX. For Friedrichshain / Ostkreuz: S9. For most other centre districts: pre-booked transfer is 30-45 min door-to-door.

BER opened in 2020 — is it still messy?+

BER had a notorious 14-year delay (originally meant to open 2006). Since opening Oct 2020 it has functioned normally — though early years saw queue issues + understaffing. As of 2026 it's a smooth airport. T1 handles most international + Lufthansa, T5 (former Schönefeld) handles some low-cost. Both connected to the same FEX/S-Bahn rail station underground.

BER to Potsdam transfer?+

Potsdam (UNESCO palaces, Sanssouci) is 40 km south-west of BER / 45-60 min. Pre-booked transfer €70-110. Alternative: S-Bahn S9 + transfer to RB22 train to Potsdam Hbf (~75 min total, €4.40). For palace visits with day-trip from BER: transfer wins on time + door-to-door.
