IST (new airport, opened 2018) is on the European side — most international carriers (Turkish Airlines, most European + Middle East airlines). SAW is on the Asian side — mostly low-cost (Pegasus, AnadoluJet, some Turkish Airlines domestic). The two are 75-100 km apart with no direct rail — 100-140 min by car between them. Confirm which airport at booking.
Why so much taxi-scam talk about Istanbul?+
Istanbul taxis have a history of: claiming meters are "broken" and demanding fixed (inflated) fares, taking circuitous routes, exchanging passengers' larger banknotes with smaller ones during payment.
