Rome airport taxi scam — what to do?+
Rome FCO taxis MUST charge the regulated €50 flat fare for journeys within the Aurelian Walls (central Rome) — published on the airport website and inside taxis. Some drivers attempt to ignore this + demand €70-90. To enforce: explicitly say "tariffa fissa €50" (fixed rate €50) before getting in. If the driver refuses, take the next cab. Pre-booked transfer (Welcome Pickups, Kiwitaxi) avoids this problem entirely.
Leonardo Express vs taxi?+
For solo travellers or couples staying near Termini: best value. For families or groups (4+), the cost difference becomes negligible vs €50-80 transfer that drops at your hotel door.
Ciampino transfer?+
CIA is 15 km south-east of Rome, primarily Ryanair + low-cost European arrivals. Terravision and Sit Bus operate €6-7 buses to Termini (40 min). Pre-booked transfer 30-50 min. For solo travellers: bus. For groups or hotels not near Termini: transfer.
FCO to Naples / Florence onward?+
For Florence: Leonardo Express to Termini, then Frecciarossa high-speed train to Florence (1h 30min, €30-50 advance booking). For Naples: same route — Termini → Frecciarossa (1h 10min, €30-50). A pre-booked transfer is priced for the whole car and fixed when you book. Always go via Termini.
