Siem Reap's new international airport (SAI / Siem Reap-Angkor Intl, opened 2023) is 50 km east of Angkor Wat + Old Town — a 45-60 minute drive along the new highway. This is a genuinely NEW challenge: the old REP airport (10 km from Old Town) closed in 2023, and the new SAI is dramatically farther. Old tourist transfer prices no longer apply. Pre-booked transfers: to Old Town / Pub Street area; USD 35-60 to Angkor Wat gate area; USD 55-90 to Tonle Sap Lake or Beng Mealea day-trip start. Grab does NOT operate in Cambodia — PassApp is the local ride-hail (limited SAI supply), and hotel-arranged transfers are the standard.

Dramatically. Old REP airport (2019) was 10 km from Old Town at USD 5-10 tuk-tuk fare. New SAI (opened 2023) is 50 km east — pre-booked transfer. Even Grab-equivalent PassApp charges USD 15-30. If you're working from an older guidebook or old blog post, expect real-world prices 3-4× higher.
Does Grab work in Siem Reap?+
No — Grab withdrew from Cambodia in 2019. PassApp is the local ride-hail alternative but has limited SAI airport supply + unreliable timing. Pre-booked transfer or hotel-arranged pickup is the practical arrival choice. For onward city travel + Angkor trips: PassApp works fine within Siem Reap.
Multi-day driver for Angkor + surrounds — how does it work?+
Popular + excellent value. USD 150-250 for 3 days of driver + car covering: Day 1 Small Circuit + Angkor Wat; Day 2 Big Circuit + Ta Prohm; Day 3 Beng Mealea or Kbal Spean day trip. Includes airport pickup + drop. Book via hotel concierge or Welcome Pickups multi-day package. Vs USD 25-45 per single transfer × 4-6 trips = better value + less logistics.
SAI arrival + sunrise Angkor Wat — same day?+
Impractical. SAI arrivals land during daytime (05:00-22:00). Sunrise Angkor Wat requires 04:30 hotel departure. Standard itinerary: arrival day → rest at Old Town hotel → next morning sunrise Angkor Wat. First-day Angkor sunset (Phnom Bakheng) is more practical if flight lands before 15:00.
