Official metered taxis depart from the Ground Transportation Centre (GTC) on Level 5 of the Terminal 1 Arrivals Hall — follow the green "Taxi" signs past Customs. There are separate queues for red urban taxis, green New Territories taxis, and blue Lantau taxis. Only board taxis from the designated stand; never accept rides offered inside the terminal building.

DiDi operates in Hong Kong and typically costs HK$280–420 to Kowloon or HK$380–480 to Central — comparable to the meter. Open the DiDi app before clearing Customs and select the designated Ride-Hailing pickup bay on Level 6, separate from the metered taxi queue. Confirm the licence plate before entering and pay only through the app.

Never accept rides from touts inside the terminal — these are unlicensed and heavily overcharge.
Ensure the driver starts the meter immediately; flag it up if they don't.
Agree on the route and confirm the driver will use the Western Harbour Tunnel (not multiple toll routes).

Is there a flat-rate taxi from Hong Kong Airport?

No. All licensed taxis at HKIA use meters by law. Any driver quoting a flat rate upfront is likely unlicensed — use the metered queue at the GTC.

How long does the taxi queue take?

During off-peak hours the wait is 5–10 minutes. After morning rush (07:00–09:00) or during rain it can reach 20–30 minutes. The Airport Express train is faster and more predictable.

Can I pay by card or Octopus in a Hong Kong taxi?
