Best Time To Visit: Da Nang, Vietnam

March 22, 2026AirConnect Editors

Overview

Da Nang sits at the heart of Vietnam's central coast, sandwiched between the ancient town of Hoi An and the imperial city of Hue, making it one of the most strategically placed destinations in the country. With 30 kilometres of pristine beachfront, a growing food scene, and the iconic Golden Bridge perched in the Ba Na Hills, Da Nang punches well above its weight as a travel destination. Whether you're after surf, history, street food, or just a sun lounger with a cold Bia Hoi in hand, this city delivers.

Essential Information

Da Nang experiences two very distinct seasons, and knowing which one suits your travel style will make or break your trip.

  • Dry Season (March to August): This is peak Da Nang. Temperatures hover between 28โ€“35ยฐC, skies are blue, and the South China Sea is calm enough for swimming and water sports. April through July is widely considered the best window, with July and August drawing the biggest crowds โ€” and the highest prices.
  • Wet Season (September to February): Typhoon season runs from September to November, bringing heavy rain and occasional flooding, particularly in October. Avoid these months unless you're travelling on a tight budget and don't mind unpredictable weather. December through February is cooler and drier but overcast, with sea temperatures dropping โ€” not ideal for beach holidays.
  • Sweet Spot: If you want good weather without the summer peak crowds, aim for late March or early April. Prices are lower, the beaches are quieter, and the temperature is perfect.

The Vietnamese Dong (VND) is the local currency. Most mid-range restaurants and shops accept cash only, so carry small bills. As a rough guide, $1 USD equals approximately 25,000 VND.

Practical Tips

  • Getting around: Grab (Southeast Asia's Uber equivalent) is the most reliable and affordable way to navigate the city. A ride from the airport to the beach strip runs around $3โ€“4 USD. Renting a motorbike costs roughly $7โ€“10 USD per day if you're comfortable in Vietnamese traffic.
  • Neighbourhoods to know: My Khe Beach is where most tourists stay โ€” long, clean, and lined with hotels and seafood restaurants. For a more local experience, head to the Han River area and the An Thuong neighbourhood, which has a great mix of Vietnamese coffee shops, craft beer bars, and street food stalls.
  • Day trips: Hoi An is just 30 kilometres south and easily reached by Grab or hired motorbike in about 45 minutes. The Marble Mountains, five limestone hills dotted with caves and temples, are only a 10-minute drive from My Khe Beach and cost around $1.50 USD to enter.
  • Food budget: You can eat incredibly well for very little. A bowl of Mi Quang (the local turmeric noodle dish) costs around $1.50โ€“2 USD from a street stall. Fresh seafood at a beachfront restaurant will set you back $10โ€“20 USD per person.
  • Sun protection: The UV index during peak months is extreme. Pack high-SPF sunscreen and reapply often โ€” it's cheaper to bring your own than to buy imported brands locally.

Getting There

Da Nang International Airport (DAD) is well-connected and handles both domestic and international routes. Direct flights operate from major Asian hubs including Singapore (Changi), Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi), Kuala Lumpur (KLIA2), Seoul (Incheon), and Tokyo (Narita). Budget carriers like VietJet Air, Bamboo Airways, and AirAsia offer competitive fares on these routes.

From within Vietnam, domestic flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are frequent, fast (around 1 hour 15 minutes), and surprisingly affordable โ€” often under $30 USD if booked in advance. The airport itself is just 3 kilometres from the city centre, meaning you'll be at your hotel within 10โ€“15 minutes of landing.

Accommodation Options

Da Nang caters to every type of traveller, with a wide range of places to stay along the My Khe beachfront and the Han River corridor.

  • Budget ($15โ€“40 USD per night): Hostels and guesthouses cluster around An Thuong Street and the backpacker-friendly streets near My Khe. The Lien Guesthouse and similar family-run spots offer clean rooms, free breakfast, and a genuinely warm welcome.
  • Mid-range ($50โ€“120 USD per night): This is where Da Nang really shines. Hotels like Brilliant Hotel on the Han River or A La Carte Da Nang Beach offer rooftop pools, sea views, and excellent service without the luxury price tag.
  • Luxury ($150 USD and above per night): The Hyatt Regency Da Nang, InterContinental Da Nang Sun Peninsula Resort, and Furama Resort are among the finest properties in Southeast Asia. The InterContinental, perched dramatically on the Son Tra Peninsula, is particularly spectacular.
