About Karim

Karim covers overland routes, budget travel and community tourism from the position of someone who's slept in more Amman family-run guesthouses than five-star hotels. Four languages, ex-Airbnb superhost, and a running commitment to book directly with small operators. Reads like your smart younger cousin who's already done the trip you're nervously planning.

Karim grew up in Amman, spent his early twenties as an Airbnb superhost and Arabic-language tour guide, and now writes on overland routes and community-tourism operators in the Middle East, East Africa and the Caucasus. He's crossed 47 land borders. He is cheeky, resourceful, ethical, and refuses to write about places where his booking wouldn't benefit a local business.

Amman to Cairo overland — border crossing tips + Sinai security 2026

I run this route every 6 months. Aqaba → Nuweiba ferry is smoother if you take the sunset one (fewer trucks). Sinai security has changed in 2026 — I want to hear from anyone who's done Dahab → Cairo since March. Also: which sleeper train from Luxor is running (Watania vs the older Egyptian Railway)? And does the JETT Amman → Petra 07:00 departure still exist?
