First time on the Táin Way — a Louth guide for people who've read the epic

The trail is 40km. The story it maps onto is 2,000 years old. If you're here for both, here's how a Louth walker would order the days.

The story

Séamus walks the Táin Way in the order he'd walk it with someone who has read Kinsella's translation. Day 1 from Carlingford up Slieve Foye (the ridge Cúchulainn watched Maeve's army from). Day 2 across to Ravensdale (through the Ríastrad country). Day 3 back via Barnavave cairn + the Táin Trail sculpture. Includes his three pubs for the trail-day evenings and the one detour off-route to Clochafarmore that most visitors miss — because the death stone is what makes the story land.

Take the trip

Book Carlingford for the trail bookends — Belvedere House or Taaffe's Castle Bar B&B upstairs.
