Local tip

SZX is 32km NW of Shenzhen centre. Metro Line 11 (Airport Express) is the fastest cheap option — CNY 8-10, 30-45 min. Shenzhen is China's tech capital + youngest major city (population 100k in 1980 to 17M today). For 6h layovers: Windows of the World theme park OR Huaqiangbei tech market (depending on interest). For 12+ hours: add Shenzhen Bay Park + Dongmen Old Town. Note: many Shenzhen visitors continue to Hong Kong via border crossings — 30-60 min via Metro Line 4/9.
