Carlingford is a medieval village on the Cooley Peninsula — 900-year-old Norman streets, King John's Castle above the harbour, and pubs that have been there since well before Ireland was a republic. The bar occupies the ground floor of a genuine 16th-century tower house. Stone walls two feet thick, huge fireplace, low beams. Nothing else in Ireland pours a pint in this kind of room.
