Tips
Decide whether you can leave the airport
Leaving the airport usually means passing immigration. Check whether your passport and route allow you to enter the country, and whether your checked bags go through to your final destination, before you plan a trip into town.
Leave plenty of time to get back
Count the time to clear immigration, travel into the city and back, collect your bags and go through security again. If the margin is tight, use the airport's own desk or keep your bags with you.
Check the opening hours for your day
Storage spots are shops, cafés and hotels with their own hours. Before you book, check that the spot is open both when you drop off and when you pick up, especially early mornings, late evenings and Sundays.

Can I store luggage at the airport during a layover?
Many large airports have a left-luggage desk. The airports listed on this page state where theirs is, its hours and its prices on their own websites; check your airport's website for others.
Can I leave the airport on a connecting flight?
Only if you are allowed to enter the country on your passport and route, and you have time to come back through security. Check the entry rules for your nationality and ask your airline whether your bags are checked through.
