Transit visa for Taipei Taoyuan (TPE): do you need one?

By AirConnect Editorial

Taiwan’s Bureau of Consular Affairs says transit passengers who stay in the international transit area do not need to apply for a visa. You only need one if you want to pass immigration and your passport is not visa-exempt.

Quick answer

No visa is needed to connect at Taoyuan if you stay in the international transit area. To leave the airport during a layover you need visa-exempt entry for your passport or a Taiwan visa.
