Best neighborhoods to stay in Vancouver

Gastown + Steam Clock

30 min from YVR

Vancouver's oldest district — cobbled streets + the iconic 1977 Steam Clock (chimes every 15 min). Many craft beer + restaurants in restored 19th-century buildings.

Capilano Suspension Bridge or Lynn Canyon

45 min from YVR

Capilano (CAD 70, paid + crowded). Lynn Canyon (FREE + less crowded) — equally beautiful suspension bridge over a forest canyon. Take the SeaBus + 228 bus.

Eat here

Sushi at Miku (downtown, salmon belly aburi roll, CAD 25) or japadog (Vancouver-invented hot dog with sushi influences, CAD 8). Tim Hortons coffee + donut (Canadian institution).

Local tip

YVR is 12km from downtown — Canada Line SkyTrain takes 26 min for CAD 4.20 + CAD 5 airport surcharge (no surcharge from downtown back to airport). The station is at Level 4 inside both terminals. For 6+ hour layovers in summer: SkyTrain + Granville Island + seawall walk is feasible.
