AirConnect EditorialWhere the platform is. The SBB airport station is directly below arrivals — you don't leave the terminal building. Follow "Bahn / Trains" signs down one escalator. Ticket machines are on the platform level; they take contactless cards without a PIN prompt for anything under CHF 40.
Which train to actually take. The IR (Interregio) or IC (Intercity) trains are the ones to catch if you can — same fare, direct to Zürich Hauptbahnhof (HB) in 10 minutes. The S-Bahn S2 and S16 also run frequently but stop at Oerlikon first, adding 2-3 min. Doesn't matter for city-centre trips. Matters if you're transferring further west.
Ticket gotcha. The single ticket is valid for one journey within 1 hour of purchase — not a day pass. If your flight lands late and you buy a ticket at 23:15 planning to travel at 00:15, buy it AT 00:00 or later. A ZVV inspector will fine CHF 100 for an expired single.
Late-night after 00:30. Trains stop. Uber runs 24/7 to central Zurich for CHF 55-75. Or wait until Friday/Saturday for the SN2 night bus (hourly 01:00-04:00, CHF 10 including night supplement). Uber is faster + you don't stand outside in Swiss winter waiting.
