Athens metro from ATH vs taxi?+
Metro Line 3 (Blue) runs direct from ATH to Syntagma in 40 min for €9 single (€16 return). It runs every 30 min, 06:30-23:30. Pre-booked transfer is 35-55 min door-to-door. Solo + light luggage near a metro stop: metro. Family + heavy luggage + Plaka pedestrian streets: transfer (driver can drop closer than metro Syntagma stop).
Transfer to Piraeus port for island ferry?+
Piraeus is 35 km south-west of ATH / 50-70 min depending on traffic. A pre-booked transfer is priced for the whole car and fixed when you book. For early ferries (06:00-08:00 departures): pre-book a 04:00-05:00 pickup to skip airport-taxi queue. Tip: many ferries to Santorini / Mykonos leave from Piraeus Gate E1-E3 — confirm gate at booking so driver drops the right side.
Why is Uber not in Athens?+
Greek law restricts Uber to operating only as a taxi-dispatch layer (with licensed taxi drivers) — not as ride-share. The Uber app in Athens shows licensed taxi prices, identical to the standard flat-rate from ATH. FREE NOW operates similarly. ATH to Acropolis hotel — drop-off?+
