FRA has one of the best airport rail connections in Europe: the S-Bahn (S8 + S9) to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof takes 15 min for €5.80, and the DB long-distance train station at FRA-Fernbahnhof connects directly to Cologne / Munich / Hamburg without going through the city. S-Bahn S8 + S9 lines run direct from FRA to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof in 15 min, every 15 min, €5.80. From Hauptbahnhof you walk or U-Bahn to most centre hotels (5-15 min). Total 25-40 min door-to-door. Pre-booked transfer is 15-25 min. For most arrivals: S-Bahn is the smart choice. Transfer for Banking District direct, late-night, or heavy luggage.
FRA-Fernbahnhof — what is it?+
FRA-Fernbahnhof is the long-distance ICE / IC train station built into Frankfurt Airport — separate from the regional S-Bahn station. From it you can board direct ICE trains to Cologne (60 min), Munich (3h 15min), Hamburg (3h 45min), Stuttgart, Berlin, etc. — without going through Frankfurt city. Tickets via Deutsche Bahn (bahn.de) typically €20-80 depending on advance booking. For connecting through Frankfurt to elsewhere in Germany: no city transfer needed.
FRA to Heidelberg transfer?+
Heidelberg is 90 km south of FRA / 60-75 min via A5 motorway. A pre-booked transfer is priced for the whole car and fixed when you book. Alternative: ICE from FRA-Fernbahnhof to Heidelberg Hbf (40-50 min, €20-50). For group trips with luggage: transfer wins. For solo + light luggage: ICE.

Westend / Banking District (Deutsche Bank tower, Commerzbank, ECB) is 1-2 km west of Innenstadt — 20-30 min from FRA vs 15-25 min for Römer / centre. Most major business hotels (Steigenberger, Sofitel, Westin, JW Marriott) are in this district. Pre-booked transfer drops directly; S-Bahn requires onward walk or U-Bahn.
