Ngurah Rai International (DPS) sits between Kuta and Jimbaran on Bali's southern peninsula — 13km from Seminyak, 40km from Ubud, 130km from Lovina. There is no train and no metered airport bus on the concourse itself, but three shuttle networks cover the tourist hubs at a fraction of the airport-taxi rate. The Perama Shuttle (IDR 60,000-125,000 depending on destination) is the backpacker standard — one daily connection to Ubud, Sanur, Padangbai, and Lovina, but it does not directly serve the airport; you take a Kura-Kura or Grab to Perama's Kuta terminal first. The Kura-Kura Bus is the tourist-friendly Japanese-run hop-on network (IDR 30,000 airport-to-Kuta, IDR 80,000 to Ubud) with 8 routes and English signage. The DAMRI Trans Sarbagita line 3 (IDR 3,500 with local card) is the true locals' bus — but its route to Batubulan terminal means it only helps if you're transferring onwards by minibus. Most travellers end up taking Kura-Kura + a Grab, or (from arrivals) a pre-booked private transfer through their hotel.

FAQ

How do I get from Bali airport to Ubud on a budget?+

Two cheap options. (1) Kura-Kura Red Line: airport to Kuta (IDR 30,000, 30 min), transfer to Ubud (IDR 80,000, 90 min). Total ~2h, IDR 110,000. Runs twice daily. (2) Perama Shuttle: Grab from airport to Perama's Kuta terminal (IDR 30,000-50,000), then daily Perama to Ubud (IDR 75,000, 90 min). Perama runs 09:00 + 12:00 daily. Both far cheaper than airport-taxi to Ubud (IDR 350,000-450,000).

Is there a public bus from Bali airport?+

Only DAMRI Trans Sarbagita line 3 (IDR 3,500 with local Kartu Berlangganan card) — but it doesn't stop at the passenger terminal; the closest stop is a 15-minute walk. It runs to Batubulan bus terminal (60 min), where you'd need to transfer to a bemo (minivan) to reach Ubud or the north. Not practical for tourists with luggage. Use Kura-Kura or Grab instead.

Kura-Kura vs Grab from Bali airport?+

Grab is faster + more flexible; Kura-Kura is cheaper for longer distances. Grab from DPS to Kuta: IDR 60,000-90,000, 20-30 min direct. Kura-Kura to Kuta: IDR 30,000, 30 min. Grab to Ubud: IDR 250,000-300,000, 90 min. Kura-Kura to Ubud: IDR 80,000 + a 30k transfer, ~2h. For solo travellers going far, Kura-Kura wins on cost. For groups of 2-4 going to Kuta/Seminyak, split a Grab.

Late-night Bali airport transport?+

Kura-Kura and Perama shuttles do not run past 20:00. After that you have Grab (24/7, but expect surge pricing on late arrivals), Bluebird metered taxi (always in the queue, ~IDR 90-200k depending on destination), or a pre-booked hotel transfer. Avoid the unmarked "taxi" drivers who approach in arrivals — they overcharge 3-4×. Bluebird is the only trusted metered taxi brand on Bali.
