Bluebird Taxi — The Safe Choice

Bluebird (blue cars) and Express (white cars) are Jakarta's two reputable metered taxi companies. Both operate on meter and are available at the official taxi bays outside Arrivals at all terminals. Avoid any taxi not bearing these brands. Do not accept unmarked "taxis" offered inside the terminal.

Bluebird app: Pre-book for terminal pick-up. The driver meets you at a designated spot — useful to avoid queuing at peak hours.

Grab & GoJek from CGK

Grab and GoJek are available from the online ride-hailing zone at each terminal (look for signs or ask at the information desk). Typically 20–30% cheaper than Bluebird.

Scam Tips

  • Never get in an unmarked taxi or one offered by someone approaching you inside the terminal
  • Insist on the meter — if the driver refuses, find a different taxi
  • Watch for 'express taxi' touts in Arrivals who charge fixed (inflated) rates
  • For Grab/GoJek, confirm the licence plate and driver photo in the app before boarding

FAQ

Should I take the taxi or the train?

For the CBD (Sudirman, SCBD, Thamrin), the Railink train (IDR 70,000, 47 min) is almost always faster and cheaper during peak hours. For areas not near Sudirman, taxi is more convenient.

Is traffic really that bad?

Yes — CGK to central Jakarta via the toll road can take 45 min off-peak or 2–3 hours during rush hour (07:00–09:00, 17:00–20:00). The train bypasses this entirely.

Can I pay by card?

Bluebird accepts GoPay/OVO/QRIS. Some taxis have card readers but cash (IDR) is still most reliable. Grab/GoJek accept GrabPay, GoPay, card, and cash.

Is there a surcharge for the toll?

Yes — toll road fees (~IDR 20,000–40,000) are added to the meter fare. The driver will ask you to pay cash for the toll at the booth.
