Lahore Allama Iqbal International (LHE) is 10 km east of central Lahore. The Lahore Orange Line Metro (opened 2020, Pakistan's first modern metro) does NOT serve the airport directly — the nearest Orange Line station is Ali Town, 8 km SW of the airport. Careem is the tourist standard: PKR 600-1,500 (~$2-5.50) to central Lahore. Speedo BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) + city bus at PKR 20-40 (~$0.07-0.15) is the cheapest but complex for tourists. Prepaid airport taxis run PKR 1,500-2,500 (~$5.50-9). Lahore is Pakistan's cultural capital + safer than Karachi for foreign visitors — well-worth 6+ hour layover exploration.

FAQ

Does the Lahore Metro Orange Line reach the airport?+

No — not directly. The Orange Line (Pakistan's first modern metro, 2020) runs from Ali Town in the SW to Dera Gujran in the NE, but doesn't connect to LHE airport. Careem is the practical way from LHE. Orange Line extension to LHE is proposed but not built as of 2026.

Best Lahore historic sites for a 12h layover?+

Lahore is Pakistan's cultural capital + one of South Asia's best 6-12h layover destinations. Recommended circuit: Badshahi Mosque (UNESCO-adjacent) + adjacent Lahore Fort (UNESCO) + Wazir Khan Mosque + Anarkali Bazaar + evening at Cooco's Den restaurant (rooftop overlooking Badshahi). All in Old Lahore walled city area, walking distance. Total: 4-6 hours.

Lahore vs Karachi for tourists?+

Lahore is significantly safer + more culturally rich for foreign visitors. Old Lahore walled city, Mughal architecture, food scene, arts. Karachi is Pakistan's biggest + more chaotic + higher security awareness required. For layover tourism: Lahore is the clear choice. Islamabad is safe but modern + less to see culturally.

Late-night LHE arrivals?+

Careem operates 24/7 at LHE. Book BEFORE exiting immigration. Old Lahore is safe daytime + evening in tourist areas (walled city), less recommended late-night walking. Book hotel in Gulberg or DHA for peace of mind + easy Careem transport.
