Jorge Chávez International (LIM) — the new terminal opened January 2025 — sits in Callao, 12km northwest of central Lima. The most reliable airport transit is the Airport Express Lima shuttle: a direct S/40 (about USD 11) coach that runs every 30 minutes from the terminal to five stops in Miraflores + San Isidro, taking 55-90 minutes depending on traffic. This is the only "airport express" bus in Peru and by far the safest choice for first-time visitors — the driver stops only at hotel-adjacent points, luggage is stowed, and the buses have wifi + USB power. For budget travellers, the Corredor Rojo (Red Corridor) municipal bus route runs from the airport to Miraflores for S/3.50 (~USD 0.95) via central Lima — you need a MetroPropio card and about 90-100 minutes; it's a locals' bus, crowded and not always comfortable with luggage. Taxis + apps (Uber, Cabify, InDrive) are also common: budget S/50-80 (USD 13-22) for a metered ride to Miraflores. AVOID informal "taxi" drivers approaching in arrivals — Lima airport has an official green-taxi rank inside the terminal that's the only safe walk-up option. The Callao-to-central-Lima Metro Line 2 (planned to serve the airport) is not yet open as of 2026.

FAQ

How much is the Airport Express Lima bus?+

S/40 (about USD 11 or EUR 10) for a one-way ticket. Round-trip is S/70. Buy at the counter in the arrivals hall, online at airportexpresslima.com, or on board with card (no cash). Kids under 6 free. This is the only official airport express bus in Lima.

Is the Airport Express Lima safe?+

Yes — it's the safest ground-transport option at LIM for arriving travellers. The company runs modern air-conditioned coaches with luggage security, GPS tracking, and only stops at hotel-adjacent points (Óvalo Gutiérrez, Óvalo Miraflores, Larcomar, Parque Kennedy, Barranco connection). No unmarked stops. Preferred by Lonely Planet + most guidebooks.

Can I take the Metro from Lima airport?+

Not yet as of 2026. Lima Metro Line 2 (currently under construction) will eventually have a station at the airport, but the LIM airport extension is projected for 2028+. The current Metro Line 1 does not serve the airport. Airport Express or app-based ride is the practical choice.

Is Uber safe at Lima airport?+

Yes if used correctly. Confirm the driver + plate matches the app, meet at the designated ride-hail pickup zone (Level 1, marked "Uber/Cabify"), not curbside where unauthorized drivers wait. Do not accept "Uber" from someone who approaches you inside the terminal — those are informal drivers using the brand name. Fares to Miraflores: S/50-80.
