Shenzhen Metro Line 11 is the dedicated airport line, running from Bao'an Airport (SZX) to Futian CBD in 35 minutes for ¥3–11. It is the only Shenzhen line with Premium cars (¥7–22) — more luggage space, fewer passengers, same train. From Futian, the Vibrant Express bullet train reaches Hong Kong West Kowloon in just 14 more minutes — making SZX one of the fastest gateways into Hong Kong.

FAQ

Where is the Shenzhen Metro inside Bao’an Airport (SZX)?+

Take the elevator or escalator from the Arrivals Hall (Floor 1) to the Metro level (B1). Follow purple Line 11 (机场线 / Airport Line) signs. The walk is 5–8 minutes from gate to platform. Trains run 06:30–23:00, every 5–8 minutes peak (every 10 min off-peak). The platform is shared between Standard and Premium cars — Premium has a separate fare gate.

What is Premium class on Shenzhen Metro Line 11?+

Line 11 is the only Shenzhen metro line with Premium cars. The Premium car has plusher seats, more luggage space, fewer passengers, and a slightly higher fare (¥7–22 vs ¥3–11). It is the same train and same speed — just a calmer ride. Useful for airport travellers with luggage. Pay extra at the dedicated Premium gate; you cannot upgrade onboard. Premium tickets are available at vending machines.

How do I get from SZX to Hong Kong?+

Three options: (1) Metro Line 11 to Futian, then walk 5 min to Futian high-speed rail station, then Vibrant Express to Hong Kong West Kowloon (14 min, ¥82). Total ~1.5 hours, ¥93. (2) Direct cross-border coach from SZX terminal to Hong Kong Airport or Kowloon (¥150, 2 hours). (3) Metro Line 11 to Futian, transfer to Line 4 north to Futian Checkpoint, walk across to Lok Ma Chau MTR (Hong Kong side). Cheapest at ¥30, but slowest at ~2.5 hours. The Vibrant Express is the smart choice.

How do I pay for the Shenzhen Metro?+

Four options: (1) Shenzhen Tong card — ¥30 deposit, top up at any station, works on metro + buses. (2) Alipay or WeChat Pay QR code scanned at the gate — easiest if you have Chinese mobile pay. (3) Tencent travel card on WeChat — issued instantly, works like Shenzhen Tong. (4) Single-trip token from the vending machine — accepts foreign cards (Visa/Mastercard work at machines, NOT at gates). Many tourists use option 2 since WeChat Pay is widely available.

Does Line 11 connect to Guangzhou?+

Not directly — Line 11 ends at Gangxia North. For Guangzhou, take Line 11 to Futian → walk to Futian high-speed rail station → Guangzhou-Shenzhen high-speed rail to Guangzhou South (32 min, ¥75) or Guangzhou East (45 min, ¥80). Total SZX → Guangzhou CBD: ~1.5 hours including all transfers and the rail journey. The new Greater Bay rail network makes the entire PRD a 1.5–2 hour radius.

Is the airport open 24 hours?+

SZX terminal is open 24 hours but Metro Line 11 stops at 23:00. After that, taxi or Didi to the city is the only option (¥100–140 to Futian). For late arrivals, you can also wait inside the terminal — there are 24-hour cafés and a rest area on Floor 4. Bus services run 06:00–22:00. If you arrive after 23:00, allow ¥150+ for transport into the city.
