FAQ
Where is the Canada Line SkyTrain at YVR?+
The YVR Airport station is integrated into the airport, connected by indoor walkways from both the Domestic and International terminals at Level 4 (Departures level). Look for purple "Canada Line" signs. From either terminal arrivals, take the elevator up to Level 4 and follow signs — 5 to 10 minute walk. Trains run 04:48 to 01:15 daily, every 7–15 minutes depending on time of day.
What is the CA$5 airport surcharge?+
TransLink adds a CA$5 surcharge to all Canada Line trips departing from YVR Airport, Sea Island Centre, or Templeton stations (with limited exceptions). This is on top of the regular Compass card fare (CA$3.30 for 1-zone, CA$4.65 for 2-zone). So your total is CA$8.30–9.65 depending on destination. The surcharge does NOT apply between Monday and Friday before 06:30 AM or on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays — so an early-morning weekday or any weekend flight saves you CA$5.
How do I get from YVR to Stanley Park / English Bay?+
Take the Canada Line to Waterfront (26 min). From Waterfront, walk 10–15 min through Coal Harbour to Stanley Park entrance, or transfer to the #19 bus along Pender Street. Alternatively, get off at Yaletown–Roundhouse and walk 25 min along the seawall to English Bay. For a scenic option, take the Canada Line to Waterfront and rent a bike from Spokes Bicycle Rentals (5 min walk from Waterfront) to ride the Stanley Park seawall — most popular cycling loop in Canada.
Compass card or pay-by-tap?+
Either works — the Compass card costs CA$6 (refundable deposit) and is reloadable. Contactless Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, and Google Pay all work at the gate at the same fare. If you are staying 2+ days, get a Compass card for the day-pass discount (CA$11.65 vs CA$13.20+ per day). If you are just commuting airport → hotel once, tap your contactless card and skip the deposit. Single-use ticket from the machine is the most expensive option (CA$9.55 + surcharge).
How do I get to Whistler from YVR?+
No direct train — Whistler is 120 km north. Options: (1) Pacific Coach Lines Sky Lynx coach from YVR direct to Whistler Village — CA$78, ~3 hours. (2) Canada Line to Waterfront + transfer to Sea-to-Sky Coach from Burrard Station — CA$85, ~3.5 hours. (3) Rental car at YVR + 2-hour drive on Highway 99 (Sea-to-Sky Highway, scenic). In winter, allow extra time for snow. Helicopter from YVR to Whistler is ~CA$1,200 and 30 minutes.
Can I take the Canada Line from YVR to Richmond?+
Yes — but the Canada Line splits at Bridgeport Station. One branch goes north to Waterfront (downtown), the other east to Richmond–Brighouse. From YVR, check the destination on the front of the train: trains marked "Richmond–Brighouse" go to the Richmond Centre mall area; trains marked "Waterfront" go downtown. If you board the wrong one, just get off at Bridgeport and transfer (3-min wait typically). Fare to Richmond is the same CA$9.55 with the surcharge.
