The Norman motte at Dundalk sits on top of the Iron Age hillfort where the boy who became Cúchulainn is said to have been born. The stone tower at the summit is a Georgian folly; the mound underneath is 2,000+ years older. Filmed at golden hour looking east over Dundalk town toward the Cooley hills — the same horizon a young Setanta would have seen.

A 3m Iron Age standing stone in a field near Knockbridge, Louth. Cúchulainn is said to have tied himself to it so he could die on his feet. The loneliest and most cinematic shot of the series — the stone stands alone in the middle of the field with nothing else in the frame. Filmed at dawn mist for maximum atmosphere.

The bronze combat sculpture on Ardee's Riverwalk marks the ford where Cúchulainn killed his foster-brother Ferdia after three days of single combat. The town's name — Áth Fhirdiad, 'Ferdia's Ford' — is 900 years old and it commemorates the defeated warrior, not the victor. Nothing else on the island is named like this.

The medieval village at the foot of Slieve Foye — the natural base for walking the Táin. King John's Castle stands over the harbour, unchanged since c. 1200. The lough behind stretches north to Northern Ireland; the north-shore hills are the Mournes. Best single Louth aerial in one frame.
