Budapest's Vörösmarty tér market is the traditional heart; the Basilica market (with its giant nativity backdrop) is the postcard. Both are 5 minutes' walk apart. Budapest is the cheapest of the six markets on this list — a full evening (three drinks + a langos + a lángos) is €18-25.

Vörösmarty Square is the older market, dating from 1998. The Basilica market opened 2011 and now rivals it. Deák tér (in front of the yellow metro entrance) is the transit-hub market, smaller and cheaper. Budapest has thermal baths open until 22:00 in December — Széchenyi in the snow is the classic Instagram shot.
