The carrier is majority-owned by the privately held HNA Group and competes in the premium leisure and business travel segments. Unlike low-cost competitors, Starlux offers multiple cabin classes, including lie-flat seats on long-haul routes, and focuses on Chinese-speaking markets while serving international leisure destinations.
The airline’s primary hub is Taipei Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), with a secondary base at Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH). Starlux serves 30 destinations across East and Southeast Asia, including major cities in Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Routes are concentrated on high-demand leisure and cultural travel corridors, with limited connections to North America via codeshare agreements. Its network avoids direct competition with major hub carriers on long-haul routes, instead prioritising regional connectivity and niche leisure markets.
Starlux operates a two-class cabin system on most routes: Premium Business and Economy. Long-haul services feature 180-degree lie-flat seats in Business Class, while Economy Class includes complimentary meals and beverages. The airline enforces a generous baggage policy, allowing two checked bags in Business and one in Economy on all routes. Notably, it does not participate in alliances or extensive codeshare partnerships, meaning passengers must book directly for through-ticketing. Its fleet consists of Airbus A321neo and A330-300 aircraft, with no plans for widebody expansion beyond existing routes.
