Why airport taxi scams work
Airport taxi scams work because arriving travellers are tired, unfamiliar with local currency, carrying luggage, and time-pressured to reach their hotel. Every one of the scams in these guides exploits at least two of those conditions.
The four universal defences are the same everywhere: only use the official taxi rank (never accept an offer inside the terminal), insist on the meter unless the airport has a legally-mandated fixed rate, track your route on Google Maps live, and have local currency in small notesso you never hand over a large bill for change.
The single best long-term defence is booking a hotel with an included airport transfer — it removes every failure mode above at once.
