SIN — Frequently asked

Which terminal does my airline use at Singapore Changi?+

Terminal 1: Cathay Pacific, Qatar Airways, British Airways, Qantas, Finnair, JAL, Royal Brunei, Jetstar Asia, some Emirates. Terminal 2: Singapore Airlines regional, Air India, Garuda, Vietnam Airlines, Lufthansa, SWISS. Terminal 3: Singapore Airlines long-haul + A380 + Scoot, United, Air NZ, Aeroflot. Terminal 4: low-cost — AirAsia, Cebu Pacific, VietJet, Korean Air (some), Spring Airlines. T4 is separate from T1-T3 and requires a free shuttle.

How do I get from Changi to central Singapore?+

MRT East-West Line — S$2.50, 30-45 min direct from T2/T3 station to city, then transfer at Tanah Merah for Downtown. Cheap and reliable. Taxi S$25-S$40, 20-35 min. Grab S$18-S$35. Avoid the airport shuttle van unless you have lots of luggage — slow. The MRT is the standout option.

How long do I need for a Changi transfer?+

Within T1-T3 (Skytrain connected): 45 min minimum. T1/T2/T3 ↔ T4: 90 min minimum — requires landside transit via free shuttle, then re-clearing security. Changi minimum connection times: 60 min same-terminal, 90 min different (T1-T3), 120 min to/from T4. SQ-to-SQ between T2 and T3 is 45 min via airside Skytrain.

What is the Jewel at Changi?+

A 10-storey lifestyle and retail complex in the centre of Changi, opened 2019. The 40-metre HSBC Rain Vortex (world's tallest indoor waterfall) drops through 5 floors of indoor forest. Landside (no boarding pass needed), so accessible to non-passengers. Free entry; paid attractions include the Canopy Park (S$5), Hedge Maze, Mirror Maze. Connected directly to T1, 10-min walk from T2 + T3.

Can I leave Changi during a layover?+

Yes — Singapore offers visa-free entry to most major passport nationalities (US, UK, EU, Australia, Canada, Japan, Korea, India e-Visa, China VOA). 96-Hour Visa Free Transit Facility (VFTF) for those who don't qualify under regular visa-free. Singapore Tourism Board runs a free Singapore City Tour (2h 30min) for travellers with 5h+ layovers — sign up at the Changi tour desk in T2 or T3.

What free things can I do during a layover at Changi?+

Free movie theatre (T2 + T3, 24h). Indoor gardens: butterfly garden (T3), orchid garden (T2), cactus garden (T1 viewing mall). Skytrain rides between T1-T3 (the elevated indoor track gives airfield views). Free Singapore City Tour from the tour desk (T2/T3). Use the Jewel attractions — Rain Vortex is free to view; Canopy Park is paid. Free Wi-Fi everywhere — connect by scanning your boarding pass.
